Turku European City of Culture 2011

The City of Turku on the west coast of Finland will be one of the two European Cities of Culture in 2011 alongside the Estonian capital Tallinn. Around 150 programme items and projects have already been announced in Finland. The events in Turku will be carried out by individuals and independent artists, as well as by public cultural institutions, companies, organisations and associations. The aim is to promote the long-term development of Turku as a centre for culture and sports.

Turku 2011 Foundation

The Turku 2011 Foundation is responsible for the implementation of Turku European Capital of Culture 2011. The foundation is charged with the co-ordination and partial funding of the projects to be selected for the Turku 2011 project. In addition, the services include production support, research programme, Live2011.com concept, communications and corporate co-operation.

The Foundation started operations at the turn of the year 2007-2008. The Chairman of the Foundation's Board is Minister Christoffer Taxell. The Chairman of the Foundation's Delegation is Rector Keijo Virtanen.
