Sisältö« Takaisin edelliselle sivulle 13.11.2009 Turku to host SKÅL World Congress 2011SKÅL, the International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals, has announced that it will hold its 72nd World Congress in Turku, Finland. The final selection was made on Tuesday 3 November at the ongoing World Congress 2009 in Budapest, Hungary. The Turku Fair and Congress Centre will serve as the main venue for the five-day congress, which is expected to attract 800 to 1000 delegates. Turku had to compete against several other locations, including Andorra and London, and in the final round it was selected over Dubai. Susanna Saari, Chairperson of the Turku Club of SKÅL International, says it is an honour to host such a prestigious meeting in Turku in 2011, the same year as it will be the European Capital of Culture. The congress hosts in Turku were assisted in their bid to host the SKÅL World Congress by Turku Convention Bureau together with Finland Convention Bureau. SKÅL International is a professional organisation of tourism leaders around the world that was founded in 1934 and promotes global tourism and friendship. SKÅL International today has approximately 20,000 members in 480 Clubs throughout 89 nations. The Turku Club has 47 members. Turku Convention Bureau helps attract congresses to Turku by assisting with invitations, providing information about local congress, accommodation and banqueting services, and working in close co-operation with local universities and businesses.
